Visit with Alexey Shepelev, March Mission of the Month

Dinner sign-up here

Alexey Shepelev has been our March Mission of the Month for the past eight years. His ministry is different than other St. Paul’s Mission of the Month recipients in that he is a Russian National ministering to people in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Israel rather than an American serving in these mission fields outside the U.S. He and his mission are in communion with the LCMS. His ministry includes a Russian catechism project with distribution of Luther’s Small Catechism that has been translated into the Russian language.

You are invited to a dinner reception to meet Alexey and learn more about his work on Thursday, April 4, at Trattoria Toscana, 11086 Gravois Road, from 5:15–7: 15 p.m. with dinner served at 6:15 p.m. Menu: charbroiled chicken breast in lemon and wine sauce, pasta, and salad. There is no charge for this event (there is a charge for beverages other than wine). Seating is limited. Please sign up online or call the church office, 314.822.0447, by Monday, April 1.

Alexey, born a Jew during the Communist Era, became Christian, then Lutheran, which is a Finish branch of the Lutheran Church. He attended the Lutheran seminary in St. Petersburg and was ordained a Lutheran pastor. For many years, he was pastor of a church in Moscow with a congregation consisting of converted Jews and Gentiles. Several years ago, he developed a health issue of a cerebral aneurysm that was oblated in Israel. Currently, he resides in Simferopol, Crimea, Russia. His ministry includes a Russian catechism project with distribution of Luther’s Small Catechism that has been translated into the Russian language. For the past eleven years, he has had an internet ministry with hundreds of thousands of “hits” annually taking the Word to people in extremely remote areas. Alexey also has a small congregation in the town where he lives and shares the Word to Russian Jews in Israel and travels there frequently.
